What Cats Do Book Tag

Hi!

It’s another Blog Tag Wednesday, lol. (No, there’s nothing strict about it, but I like to have some content for the middle of the week if things work out this way. And I’ve been doing blog tags every other week recently.)

This one is about cats, and I got it from the lovely EG Bella. I don’t know if you like cats or not; I certainly think they’re graceful and beautiful. But, more to the point, it is – as usual – about books!

The Rules:

– Answer the questions
– And tag as many people as you like!

PURR – AS CATS DO THIS WHEN THEY’RE HAPPY OR RELAXED, WHAT IS THE BOOK THAT MAKES YOU HAPPIEST OR RELAXED?

Phantastes. Or really anything by George MacDonald (at least anything I’ve read so far). There’s just something so refreshing and glad about the way George MacDonald’s stories represent the world.

Phantastes by George MacDonald, A Faerie Romance, an exciting, surreal adventure.

SLEEP – WHAT IS A BOOK THAT PUT YOU TO SLEEP OR WAS JUST BORING?

The Last Dragon Keeper by Alex Morgenstern. I’d probably have read it if I had it in paperback, because paperbacks are both limited and so easy to read, but as I have the ebook, it was just so boring I couldn’t read it, even though I really tried. With a title like that … I love dragons, I wanted to at least give it a chance, but for some reason this one just bored me right away.

The Last Dragon Keeper by Alex Morgenstern, Dawn of the Dragon Riders Book 0.5. A dragon fantasy I tried to get into.

TWITCH WHILE DREAMING – HAVE YOU EVER DREAMT OF A BOOK YOU READ?

So … I actually dreamt about The Hidden King by EG Radcliff before I read it. Unless you count reading the preview as reading it.

The Hidden King by E.G. Radcliff, a fae novel, YA dark fantasy, SPFBO 7 semi-finalist. A rich character novel with grief and joy.REVIEW

SEEMS TO PLAY NICE…UNTIL THE CLAWS ARE OUT – WHICH BOOK HAD THE BIGGEST PLOT TWIST?

Hmm. Given the way I read – and think about books – plot twists aren’t the biggest thing to me, and I often don’t notice them. So I will just throw in Manaborn by A.S. Frederiks, being as I am pretty sure there’s something someone could consider a plot twist somewhere in that story.

Manaborn by A.S. Frederiks, The Morrow Legacy Book One, a character novel with a twist on medieval fantasy.REVIEW

CUDDLES – WHICH BOOK CHARACTER WOULD YOU GIVE A HUG TO?

Right now, that would be Ash from Ascendant by Michael R. Miller. I just read it, and Ash is so cute and sweet and valiant, and I’d just like to give him a hug.

Ascendant, Songs of Chaos Book One, by Michael R. Miller, an epic dragon fantasy with threads that seem inspired by Dragonriders of Pern, Brandon Sanderson, the Inheritance Cycle/Eragon by Christopher Paolini, and a slight RPG feel woven through it.

CATNIP – WHAT’S A BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAVE WARM AND FUZZY FEELS?

I’m honestly not sure what this is? But I will hazard a guess that it might be something a little like the way I feel about Palon by S. Kaeth. It’s only a novella, but it was fun one! And I want a dragon, too. Always.

Palon, A Windward novella by S. Kaeth, a cool take on dragon rider fantasies and societies and the dragon bond.REVIEW

CAT BREEDS – WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE BOOKS?

A few of them:

The Last Herald-Mage (Magic’s Pawn, Magic’s Promise, Magic’s Price) by Mercedes Lackey

Lilith (and many others) by George MacDonald

Wistful Ascending by JCM Berne

Between Starfalls by S. Kaeth

Persuader by Amy Campbell

The Stars Wait Not and Asrian Skies by Anne Wheeler

Magic's Price, the conclusion to the Last Herald-Mage by Mercedes Lackey, a Heralds of Valdemar series. Magical Companions and fresh relationships.Lilith by George MacDonald, a refreshing, mystical novel.Wistful Ascending by JCM Berne, Turn One of the Hybrid Helix, an engaging superhero-fantasy.Between Starfalls, Children of the Nexus Book One, by S. Kaeth. A refreshing tale of hope and friendship enduring in the midst of challenges.Persuader, Tales of the Outlaw Mages Book Four, by Amy Campbell. A Western Fantasy with pegasi and magic that had a lot of themes I really like. The Stars Wait Not by Anne Wheeler, a sci-fantasy romance with themes of overcoming prejudice and blind obedience to authority. The cost and prize of challenging what you thought you knew.

THE VET’S OFFICE – YOUR LEAST FAVORITE BOOK:

My least favorite book? I suspect I haven’t read my least favorite book, and I sure hope I never will!

BEING IN PLACES THEY SHOULDN’T – LEAST FAVORITE CLICHE:

I don’t know? I don’t keep lists of all the cliches I don’t like around! There are some romance ones I’m pretty sure I don’t enjoy at all. I also don’t like it when the orphan boy is so proud of his father for doing some heroic, manly action that got him killed, even though he knew he had a pregnant wife! Like, for once, can the orphan boy be mad at his his father for putting his life on the line for a stranger when he knew he had a wife and child who needs him?

FINAL QUESTION: THE GOOD OLD CARDBOARD BOX – MOST UNDERRATED BOOK SERIES:

This is a difficult question to answer – since I hesitate to affirm a series too highly before I have read it all, since I can rarely, if ever, know that it won’t go in some direction I simply cannot stand until it is complete. And I have a fair number of uncompleted series that, so far, I am liking quite a bit. One that might not be my favorite, but I do like quite a bit and that so far is getting very little attention, is The Age of Fire by R. Ramey Guerrero. It’s a long one, so it’s hard to know too well at this stage, but it’s rather original in some very nice ways, and I wish more people saw the good/potential in that.

Dust of a Moth's Wing, The Age of Fire Book One, by R. Ramey Guerrero. Nokhum might be the one chosen to save the world from chaos in the Age of Fire - but he really just wants to find his life-mate, whom he refuses to believe is dead.REVIEW

I am following E.G. Bella’s example, and leaving this blog tag open for anyone who ventures by! I would love to see your answers to these prompts!

Until next time.
