At the Back of the North Wind is a story written by George MacDonald. It is about a boy named Diamond whom North Wind chooses to be her friend. It is rich with Diamond’s childlike wisdom which views the world as it truly is, in the care of the Father, as opposed to the cynicism, doubt, and worry of those who have, as they call it, grown up – grown out of thinking, understanding, grown out of wisdom – and so do not see the care of the Father in everything. North Wind teaches Diamond, not to un-see truth, but to see truth he cannot yet see, to see the meaning and reality of things behind the appearances.
