Cover Reveal and Launch: PROMISE OF FIRE

Hello! Today I have another post for you that isn’t a standard Art Saturday.

I mentioned in my July Updates that there would be a lot of cover reveals! I’ve also mentioned that I had a prequel novella for Heart of Fire and the Dragon-Mage series coming out!

BEHOLD THE COVER!

Promise of Fire, cover made by Raina Nightingale with free stock photos.
Dragon-Mage Prequel: Promise of Fire

I know it’s a stock photo cover, not original art (mostly; I did draw those orbs by hand; but that’s nothing), but I’m still pretty pleased with it. I wanted to get this book out to you without too much of a delay, and that meant I didn’t have the time to do a cover myself, or get one from Midnight Rose. So this is what we have for now, though I’ll probably get something else eventually.

And if you’re worried about AI, I guarantee you, this one definitely doesn’t have AI components. In fact, it only uses stock photos that are older than the AI art flooding some places now.

Well, let’s not get into that, whatever your opinion on AI is or isn’t. Here’s the back cover copy:

A HOPELESS FIGHT. A HORROR WORSE THAN DEATH.

WERE-DRAGONS BORN FROM THE PROMISE OF FIRE.

The last stand of the Dragonrider-mages is over. The people they fought to protect have been slain and enslaved, and their own numbers have been culled in accident and battle. Every death has added to the power of the Wizard-King, and their doom seems inevitable.

But a glimmer of hope has fanned the gloom into a flame, and despair is fuel for the fire. All seems lost, but the human Laisly and the dragon Caldera have slain a death-bound dragon, and suddenly their way is clear.   They may all be slain and enslaved, but they must journey into the heart of Eltaes, homeland of the Wizard-King, and give all they have to kill him. It is their last chance.

Is the triumph over fear victory enough?

There you go! It’s only 25k, so what’s to lose in trying it? You might find you love it!

And it’s free. At least, it’s free everywhere but Amazon, and they’ll hopefully price-match soon. But with something so short, that should be no trouble.

You want to try it? HERE!!!

I hope you enjoy! And I hope you come back again soon! I’ve still got the announcement on Scars of Fire (that’s book two) to make. And art. And reviews. And other cool stuff, now and again.

But have fun until then!

  1. The cover reveal for “Promise of Fire” is exciting! The use of stock photos sparked curiosity. How do you feel about stock photo covers compared to original art? Will AI’s influence on cover art impact your reading choices? The novella’s premise sounds gripping; would you be interested in exploring more were-dragon stories?

    1. I prefer original art, and I’ve always leaned towards original art. I feel like stock photo art is less “real.” Also, I am picky about cover art, and with stock photos, it is very hard to get things just right.

As regards AI – I don’t pay a lot of attention to other people’s covers for the most part, anyways. I’ve found there are much better, more reliable ways for me to choose what I like to read. So even though I really appreciate cover art, it’s possible I won’t notice at all. I haven’t designed an ethos of how I’d respond to it, either, yet.

Thank you! There are were-dragons in Heart of Fire – and the rest of the Dragon-Mage books. A few also appear in my other Work-In-Progress series that’s contemporary with Dragon-Mage. I might very well write more stories directly about the were-dragons. None are currently in the works, but I have a handful of ideas sloshing around in my head. So it might happen. But I’d prefer not to add another Work-in-Progress to the list of those until I finish another project or two. I will if I have to, but I’m not asking for one, if that makes any sense.
