My Favorite Five Covers of 2023

The last two years I did this in the first week or so of January, but I figured this year, I’d change it up and do it at the end of the year. Seems like a good day for it, and I’m certainly not reading any more books this year, so this it!

Raina’s Favorite Five Covers of 2023.

All right!

Blood's Power: Broken by Midnight Rose, a beautiful novella, a raw story of hurt and despair, hope and healing.

Skies, this is just so beautifully done. I love the unique touch and the artistry that went into this one. This is a cover that’s clearly meaningful and helps to tell the story, not something just tacked on. There’s so much beautiful imagination in this one.

Hills of Heather and Bone by K.E. Andrews, a dark cozy celtic romance fantasy with cool characters and world-building.

I really love the soft colors of this one. The flowers are beautifully done. The scene depicts both the setting and the settled, caring relationship between the main characters well, and once again, I really like the muted colors and the color balance. Unlike some covers, the colors give a feel that reminds me of the outdoors, instead of studio lighting, and I really prefer that.

Daughters of Tith by J. Patricia Anderson, an SPFBO 9 epic fantasy with non-earthlike worlds and non-human characters.Daughters of Tith

I didn’t really care for this cover at first. But then I took a closer look at it and I fell in love with all the details hidden in the colors. You can see so much texture in the tree’s leaves. I love how the bark is done. And I love the little ripples in the blue water. And more, besides. There’s something very artistic and just nice about it.

Miss Percy's Pocket Guide to the Care and Feeding of British Dragons by Quenby Olson, a regency cozy dragon fantasy with a dash of romance and an SPFBO finalist.Miss Percy’s Pocket Guide to the Care and Feeding of British Dragons

Because when is a cute dragon hatchling, not even yet out of his egg, not to love?

The Shoreless River by JC Snow, conclusion to the Crane Moon Cycle, a story with a really good redemption art, and a tale of love and found family breaking chains. The Shoreless River

by J C Snow

Because the cute water dragon-lizard creature is just cool. It’s cute, and I really like the way the water flows and splashes to make the dragon-lizard creature.

What do you think? What are your favorite covers of the year? Are any of these books included in them (it’s okay if they’re not! lol)? Have you read any of these books?
