November Updates, Expectations, and Book Features!

Hello, everyone!

It’s November now, and that is quite a busy month. Even if we are ignoring the Holiday Season (which I usually do), and even if we’re not doing NaNoWriMo (which I never do either, but have all the fun if you are!!).

Honestly, October was BUSY too. I released Scars of Fire and I launched headlong into doing some light revisions (but I think they are significant improvements!) on the Return of the Dragonriders novels. Actually, I launched into that in September, but … I did a lot of it in October. Edited DragonWing, which was by far the hardest of the three, did all DragonWing’s illustrations (which are beautiful!) and got it out there with the new cover art by Midnight Rose! You can see the cover reveal here.

After that, I launched right back into edits, this time on DragonSword. As I write this, I’m more than half-way through and I expect I’ll be finished and working on illustrations by the time you read this. Midnight Rose’s art for the cover is also coming along beautifully, so I may be able to get this out to you too before December rolls around!

That depends, in part, on how the illustrations go, but since I am getting better at them, they may go pretty well, even though my plans for DragonSword are the most ambitious of them all.

Any way, all in all, that means I’ll likely get back to writing in November! And given how little I’ve been writing these last handful of months, who knows HOW MUCH I might write over this Winter. No expectations, no guarantees, but that can be a recipe for numbers that put NaNoWriMo to shame, in my experience.

Because, of course, I even started another Work-In-Progress over these months though I’m only a few thousand words in! This one follows entirely different characters, but it’s a sort-of prequel to the Dragon-Mage series, but many thousands of years earlier before even Nelexi hatched!

Okay. Reading updates.

I’ve actually been reading a fair amount. I read the entirety of Daughters of Tith by Jackie Andersen over one weekend when I simply needed something to take my mind away from editing DragonWing, and I’ve read several other books recently. You’ll see the reviews sometime, but I tend to forget what I read when so I can’t really tell you everything I read in October.

I think I also read Path of the Warrior by Melissa Stone, and I know I read Silver Fire by Laura and Roland Brewer because I only just got the ARC for that! Review will be coming soon, but not until after the release date, but you can see the cover reveal and feature here!

And speaking of that, I have MORE books lined up in this month’s feature! And two of them are on sale!!

Unwanted

Emergence, #1

Catherine M. Walker

Unwanted, Emergence Book One, a fantasy by Catherine M. Walker, SPFBO 9.In a world torn by conflict, it is the unwanted who fight for survival.

At nearly 18 years of age, Damien knows his peaceful life in the only village he’s ever known is about to change. Either his burgeoning powers of the veil will kill him, which at least would bring an end to the pain and the mistrust and fear of his friends and neighbours, or the Warlord and his infamous warband, the Unwanted, will track him down.

Though the Warlord claims to protect his domain from the persistent raids of the enemy Sylannians, that protection comes at a price. To be taken by the Warlord is to forfeit your soul. Those who join his warband are destined to become cold-blooded killers, and the atrocities they are rumoured to commit make death the preferable option.

When the worst happens and the Warlord finally comes to his village, Damien surrenders himself to save his family—and protect his younger sister, Isabella, whose own powers are already growing…

On the other side of the vast mountain range the clans of the People have lost the war against the Sylannians. As royal Sylannian Commander Jaclyn plans to return home after their victory, only two clans remain, and they face an impossible choice: stay and risk almost certain annihilation, or flee their homeland and take their chances on the other side of the mountains.

But even as the clan leaders seek a way to save their people from genocide, the political wheels in Sylanna are still turning and the ruthless king and his wives have their own plans for his sister Jaclyn, who was never meant to succeed.

As Damien makes a new life with the Unwanted, he learns to use his powers and discovers the truth about his new “family”. But before he can decide where he really belongs, he must come to terms with who and what he really is.

On sale ($2.99) throughout the month of November on all platforms! Use code BNPBOOKONE50 on Barnes & Noble. Or go to the author’s store to get Unwanted for $1.99 and 30% off book two if you get it at the same time.

Sacrifice

Emergence, #2

Catherine M. Walker

Sacrifice, Emergence Book Two, an epic fantasy by Catherine M. Walker.Sometimes the greatest battles are fought on the inside…

In the Warlord’s domain, there is one unbendable rule: no human trafficking. Anyone caught undertaking such a crime can only wish for a swift death—for themselves and anyone they hold dear. As the Warlord prepares for the Sylannian invasion in the mountains, the Unwanted ride across the domain warning their people to get to safety.

The Unwanted are drawn from their duty to deal with Damien who is caught up in the grip of his addiction and struggling to free himself. The mission to rescue their newest recruit unwittingly sheds light on a source of the persistent rumours and betrayal that will undercut the security of the entire Warlord’s domain.

High in the mountain plains among the Kallith clan, cracks are starting to show as they try to re-establish themselves in a new land. Khaliun and Tarkhan break ranks to embark on an impossible rescue with devastating results that risk exposing all that remains of the People to Sylanna.

In the islands the Sylannians call home, the king still has plans for the barbarians and his sister. Jaclyn dances on a knife edge, as she desperately tries to save her house without bringing destruction down on the kingdom.

As each group formulates its strategies, it is the Unwanted who must navigate their way through it all. With attacks threatened on all fronts, as powerful as the Unwanted are, they can only be in one place at once. And the most insidious enemy might be one of their own.

EPIC November

This one features over 130 fantasy and sci-fi titles for November and what’s left of autumn! Includes all three of my published Dragon-Mage novels and novellas, and DragonBirth. Check it out here.

Kobo Book Fair

All of these titles are available on Kobo. Some of them (like mine) are also free with Kobo + (that’s kind of like Kindle Unlimited, but I can still have my books available everywhere else). Includes Heart of Fire and DragonBirth. Check it out here.

This is your reminder that DragonBirth takes place almost entirely during the Fall! It might start in the late Summer or end in the early Winter, but pretty much it takes place during Autumn! And so it’s going to be 99cents through November since I think this is an awesome time to read it!

If you’re interested, you should be able to find it pretty easily in the BookFunnel promotions (you might find something else too), or go up and use the link to the cover reveal I shared earlier! There are links in that post.

AND, while we’re on the subject of fantasy books that happen during Autumn …

What’s your favorite fantasy book that more or less takes place during the Fall?
