Hello everyone! Welcome back to another Saturday Art. This time I have a new cover for DragonBirth, with art by the awesome MidnightRose.
In case you haven’t heard yet (which isn’t unlikely; I don’t think I’ve even mentioned it on the blog yet), I decided the Return of the Dragonriders trilogy could use some revisions. Nothing about the story is going to change, and if you’ve already read and loved it you don’t need to get the new book, but … well, my style wasn’t as solid then as it is now. So I cleaned up some breaks with style and some unnecessary over-description that didn’t belong, and fleshed out some other details and character interactions.
Well, I’ve done that for DragonBirth – I’m still working on the others – and I decided the revision called for new covers …
SO HERE’S THE GORGEOUS NEW COVER
Isn’t that one awesome, gorgeous cover? I always love Midnight Rose’s art, and it’s more beautiful than I could have imagined. Minth is soo cute, and I love the vibes of the scenery! It’s just perfect ….
And here’s the back cover description:
In a world where dragons are considered demons and Dragonriders are hunted and killed as witches . . .
Silmavalien is a devout young woman from a small mountain village. Her engaged, Noren, is teaching her the bow and her life goals are limited to marrying him – as soon as he completes his Manhood Hunt – and having a family.
But then she meets a dragon hatchling and discovers a love she could never have dreamed, but one that rips her entire world apart. The gods she has worshiped, everything she has ever been taught or believed, is a monstrous lie, and she’s not sure what to believe now. Can she dare to trust Noren with her new secret, even if he is the only person she’s ever heard voice doubts about whether the stories are true?
If she, or the hatchling Minth, are discovered, both will be burned alive. How can she survive and care for Minth in a wild hostile world – one that is even stranger than she thought?
The new version of DragonBirth also contains 15 beautiful illustrations. Every one of them is original art, and made by me (though one of them wasn’t made only by me). I’ll probably be sharing some of them next month, but since the second book in my Dragon-Mage series, Scars of Fire, is coming out on the 10th, that might get pushed back.
As usual (with me), the illustrations are present in both the ebook and the paperback: full color in the ebook, but I think the way I’ve woven them into the text and margins in the paperback is even better!
DragonBirth is the very slice-of-life/cozy/mundane first book in a slice of life X epic fantasy series, featuring a hunter-gatherer society in transition to being more agricultural, wilderness survival, and a lot of focus on a young woman trying to raise and take care of her albino dragon hatchling, and the relationships that develop between the dragons and the people.
If any of that sounds good to you …
the ebook is currently 99cents (or equivalent) …
You can get it here!
— And I hope to have the revised version of DragonWing ready by November, certainly before December, so you shouldn’t have to wait long for that. And you’ll know you’re getting the revised one when the cover matches the new DragonBirth cover.
