August News, Updates, and Featured Sales and Books

Hi, again!

We’re half-way through Summer? Something like that, I think.

So, what actually did happen in July? I read, wrote, and updated and published books. You can check out the cover reveal for Kindred of the Sea’s new cover here, and all those beautiful interior updates are live too!

I also published Promise of Fire. As I write this, it’s #1 in YA Friendship Fiction on Amazon, and in the top 10 of YA Epic Fantasy, which is where it’s been hanging out for a few days. Not that all those numbers really matter … But a big thank you to every one who’s picked it up, and an even bigger thank you to everyone who’s read it! Since that does matter to me!

And if you haven’t, you can currently get the prequel novella to the Dragon-Mage series, and the origin story of the were-dragons, for free, pretty much everywhere. And if you missed it, you can check out my cover reveal post for that here.

I’ve done a bit of writing. Not a whole lot though, and scattered between various WIPs. I did read perhaps too much, though … I also wrote and posted some reviews, despite saying I might not in July. So … I think I may be back to that, though no guarantees I do not miss a week or two in August (to make up for the weeks I didn’t miss in July)? Summer is a pretty busy time for me. I can tell you I enjoyed a lot of my July reads, or I would not have read so much! Two of my reviews were for July reads: The Wings of Ashtaroth and The Crane Moon Cycle.

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention: the official cover reveal for Scars of Fire is August 18th, so be looking for that, if you like! If you don’t, I’ll link it in the September Updates. 😀 The sequel to Heart of Fire and the second book in the Dragon-Mage series will be coming out on October 10th, and if you want to see some of the complexities that develop in Camilla and Radiance’s relationship, be sure to keep an eye out for it. I didn’t expect them, I had not foreseen them, but when some of the difficulties they have – in large part, because they are so close – appeared, I wonder how I had not expected them!

So if you really like dragons, and you always want your dragon books to dive into that relationship more … that’s what this is.

I was also wondering if anyone thinks a pitch on the lines of, “The dragons of Pern, but they don’t sexually dominate their riders, they DO make decisions, and the setting is a non-european inspired fantasy world with unique magic” would be good for Heart of Fire. If you have any ideas on how I might change or tighten that up (or you think I should just throw it out! – or you have any other suggestions!) please leave a comment!

All right, did I forget to mention I have a book I’m featuring?

Becky James is one of the authors in the 9nth annual Self-Published Fantasy Blog-Off (that’s how I came across her, I believe). Her entry is The Tenets in the Tatoos, Book 1 of The King’s Swordsman, a sword and sorcery series. Book 5 is coming out on August 9th in just a few days!

The Mettle of the MasterMage

The Mettle of the Master Mage by Becky James, book 5 in the King's Swordsman, SPFBO 9 series. Sword and sorcery fantasy. The clock is ticking…

Tuniel MasterMage is stripped of her magical power by an enemy; if word of this gets out, there will be a fight for succession that will raze the country of Oberrot to the ground. The Rangers of Oberrot have to reverse what’s happened, but Tuniel starts to question: does she even want to be the MasterMage anymore? Giving up her powers to lead a normal life will lead to war, but the personal cost of being the MasterMage seems to get higher and higher every day…
