Hi!
I’ve got a lot of stuff to share this July, so let’s see if I manage to remember most of it! And a lot of it is pretty exciting!
In no particular order: I got really inspired, and I finished that prequel novella for the Dragon-Mage series. The name of it is Promise of Fire, and (for those who have read Heart of Fire or listened to me talk about it), this is the story of how the were-dragons were created! So it’s very weird and fun! I made a stockphoto cover, and 1) yes, I made sure I didn’t use AI art for it on accident; I know the photos I used and they’re older than that, and 2) I will probably upgrade it some time to original art, since I really prefer that. But I want to get it out there to you all quickly, and Midnight Rose is already working on something else for me that I don’t want deprioritized, and there’s no way I can do a decent job myself in a few weeks, especially with everything else I’m doing. So a stockphoto cover it will be for the moment.
But I do think it is a gorgeous cover, and I will be revealing that soon! I’m not exactly sure how soon, but I’d like to release the novella on the 21st, so we’ll see how that goes, but it should be soon. And I’ll be showing you all the back cover copy for it very soon, regardless.
And, more Dragon-Mage news: Scars of Fire is coming! The release date is October 10th, and I’ve got to decide a good date for the official cover reveal for that, too!
Here’s the back cover copy for this one at least:
BEFORE SHE CAN FACE THE NIGHTMARE AND SURVIVE, CAMILLA MUST FACE HER OWN FLAWS.
Camilla’s goals are simple. Get her brother safe. Rescue her Mom. Destroy the Wizard-King. Even though everyone thinks the last two are impossible, she and Radiance know they can do it. She has already used the power of the Heartfire to do the impossible: free a dragon from undead slavery to the Nightmare. But doing so has changed her, in ways visible and invisible, and some of those changes terrify her. What does it mean to be herself when she is part of the Heartfire?
So when Nelexi, a dragon god whose power comes from the Heartfire, appears in her life, all Camilla wants is to get away from her. But her desperate flight from the things she can’t face yet places her brother in danger and brings about an unexpected tragedy, forcing her to confront the ways in which she has violated her own values – or succumb to the Nightmare.
Her own guilt could destroy her.
Scars of Fire is going to have unique header art for every chapter! Unlike in Heart of Fire, where my two major protagonists were in different places for the entire book, and so it naturally lent itself to chapter headers that told you whose perspective you are get this, this one wanted custom chapter headers! So that’s what I did, and they are GORGEOUS!
And … speaking of custom chapter headers …
I am also re-doing the chapter headers for Kindred of the Sea, so that all of them will be unique original art! And I am getting new cover art for Kindred of the Sea. It’s not quite finished yet, but it is gorgeous, and it is by the talented Midnight Rose – the piece I mentioned I don’t want deprioritized just above!
I’ll be doing the cover reveal for that very soon, too, and I haven’t decided just when, but it will probably be a bit rushed, lol!
And … have a peak at some of the chapter headers for Kindred of the Sea. Grayscale in the paperback, these will be full color in the ebook.

And, remember: there are going to be 36 of these, showing multiple kinds of landscapes, perspectives, and styles! I am really excited, and convinced that the new version of Kindred of the Sea is going to be in all ways prettier than the old one!
Oh, and I forgot to mention: I did some improvements to the cover of Heart of Fire. It’s really got the vision I had in mind now!
Now, to talk about reading books and reviews. Well, I didn’t read anything in June because I read too much a few months before that, and the Summer is busy – and then, well, you can get a glimpse of what I’ve been working on recently (after all, I haven’t just done the Kindred of the Sea headers but I’ve finished the Scars of Fire headers that I mentioned I was doing – and shared a sneak peak of one – in last month’s updates.)
I will probably get back into reading in July. At least, I have some books planned. But I’m taking a hiatus from writing reviews. If I’m inspired, I’ll still write them, but I’m giving myself permission not to review any books in July. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get back into that in August.
Thank you so much if you got to the end of my rambling and cram-packed full monthly update! If you would be interested in helping me out with any of my upcoming cover reveals, as disorganized I am, I’d love it you let me know through a comment or otherwise got in touch with me!
